i am so angry i had to put this down, i bought a pair of PADDERS shoes from my local stead&simpson shop £49.99 and after 7-8 months the oval insert on the heel part of the sole fell off both shoes,i took shoes and receipt back to shop, where i was told i only get 6mth warranty, i wasnt told this at purchase, i was then told to contact their head office as i was a bit miffed as the shop manager wasnt able to refund or exchange after that time, i have contacted head office since and padders but no reply, as a result i wont be buying that make again,be carefull i always thought you got a 12 mth warranty with everything,ah well back to freestep at £22.99 i have been waiting now for a month and no reply from either.

How annoying Dorothy .
Do you have legal expenses cover under your House Insurance. If you have call them as it will include legal advice on any item you have bought. Perhaps worth a try

Hello Dorothy
It doesn't look as if you will. It was just a thought about the legal advices.

Before you give up Dorothy-have you written to someone at the very top of the Stead and Simpson chain? YES I'VE CHANGED, PAIN DOES THAT TO PEOPLE.

find the name of the managing director (on internet?) and address it to him/her marked Private and Confidential. Although someone else (secretary) may open it - it has to be seen by the addressee and responded to by them. It has to be worth a try - they should care enough about their company reputation to take some positive action! Good luck. Beth x

Hello Dorothy
I am sorry to hear about your difficulties with Stead and Simpson. The bottom line is that they have not supplied you with goods "of merchantable quality" (forgive spelling). No more of this nonsense. Just pop in the shop and tell them that unless they supply you with goods of merchantable quality you will be contacting your local trading standards office and will be taking them to Court. You dont actually have to do it I am sure your local trading standards office will have a letter you can send which should get results without need for further hassle. Also the Watchdog website has several examples of letters to send that make the point about merchantable quality. What it means really is that the goods have to be fit for the purpose for which they are sold and obviously shoes that cost £50 should last longer than six months. It is the responsibility of the retailer (the shop) to do this and they are responsible in law not the wholesaler or manufacturer. I used to be a legal secretary before this disease forced me to leave a job I enjoyed but my field was property, litigation and divorce so not much good for consumer problems! But I am sure I have got the main point right.

thanks pamela,i did try at the shop more than once,no one wanted to know they were adamant i speak to head office and i have contacted the head office 5 times now but still nothing its just a case of keep passing the buck and people give up,i dont normally give up but unfortunally i have been poorly and in the end threw them in the bin in disgust,i have informed padders of the shops customer service so a lesson learned by me,next time i buy good shoes i will ask about warranty, i have freestep shoes at £22 and had them for years and still like new, they've been in the wash as well!.thanks for that.
